Reviewing Abstracts

How to review and score abstract submissions as a reviewer.

Reviewing Abstracts

This view is available to users with the Abstracts - Reviewer policy. It shows only the submissions that still need reviews — it will not show abstracts that already have the required number of reviews.

The review list

The table shows:

ColumnDescription
ReviewsCurrent / required review count for this submission
Your ScoreYour score if you have already reviewed it, or blank if not
TitleAbstract title
CategoryScientific category (filterable)
SubmittedDate the abstract was submitted

Filtering

  • Search — filter by title keyword
  • Category — filter to a specific scientific category
  • Review status — toggle between "I've Reviewed" and "I Haven't Reviewed"
  • Overall status — toggle between "Fully Reviewed" (has enough reviews) and "Pending Review"

Submitting a review

Click any row to open the review modal. You will see the submission's details, read only:

  • Category and Title
  • Abstract — the full abstract text
  • Keywords — shown as tags
  • Figures — any supporting images, with their reference labels
  • Conflict of Interest Declaration — whether the authors declared a conflict, and their disclosure text if so

How you score the submission depends on whether the congress has a custom grading system configured:

  • Flat scale (default) — a single Score field from 0 to 5, where 5 is the best possible score
  • Custom grading system — a Grading Criteria section with one field per criterion (e.g. "Scientific Merit"). Each criterion shows its description as a hint, and you pick a rating from the congress's shared scale (e.g. "Excellent (5)", "Good (3)"). All criteria must be scored before you can submit.

Either way, you can leave a free-text Comments field for the author or committee.

Click Submit Score to save your review. If you have already reviewed this abstract, the button will say Update Score.

To remove your review entirely, click Delete Review.

Review limits

If the congress has set a per-reviewer limit on completed reviews, you'll see a banner once you reach it and won't be able to score further submissions.

After reviewing

Your score appears in the Your Score column. Once a submission has reached the required number of reviews it will no longer appear in the default list — use the Fully Reviewed filter if you need to find it again.
